Thoughts & Ver's

Reading Recap, Feb 2025

Yes, I know it's ironic that I read more romance books in January than in February. Listen, I was not in a reading mood this month. It came down to the wire, but I did manage to pick up my kindle and bang out two stories. This one's gonna be a short one so enjoy. As always you can keep up with my reading updates in real time on my GoodReads. see here.

There will be spoilers ahead, read at your own discretion

Book #1: The Dragon's Bride (A Deal With a Demon #1) by Katee Robert
Content Warnings domestic abuse (historical), murder (off-page), human/non-human sex, size difference, explicit sex, breeding, pregnancy (epilogue)

Synopsis: Briar Rose has learned to rely on herself, especially after being trapped in a dangerous marriage. Desperate, she makes a deal with a demon for freedom in exchange for seven years of service—only to find herself sold to a dragon named Sol. Though he seems kinder than his fearsome looks suggest, Briar knows better than to trust him. Falling for Sol is out of the question, but leaving him behind when she returns to her old life might break her heart.

Rating: ★★★☆☆ 3/5 stars

Review: Very cute and cozy book. All the characters are very courteous with each other and that can get a bit grating at times. Not much real conflict other than the main characters being idiots or focusing on the FMC's trauma. However, I can appreciate a man that loves his wife despite the trauma and wants to help her through it, on her terms. (eventually) The smut is SPICY and I liked the last scene so hot given the risk involved. Did not like the time skip, because I hate time skips. (Isn't that obvious by now?) Could've been a bit longer but it served its purpose well enough for a small novel. I recommend reading if you want a quick feel-good book.

Book #2: Alien Love Games: The Painter's Easel by Kyra Keys
Content Warnings High heat, fated lovers, dominant male, semi-anonymous sex

Synposis: Lacey's dream of traveling the universe comes true when she joins The Alien Love Games crew. She's thrilled to meet aliens, especially the hot Bolan men. But when the contestant drops out, Lacey’s suddenly thrust into the spotlight, forced to choose a Bolan man to marry in a last-minute replacement.

Vrexel, a bored interstellar ship owner, never expected to be chosen for the show. He’s just here for the story, but when Lacey steps in, he’s captivated. Now, with a painting contest on the line and no skills to speak of, Vrexel realizes he’s in deep—especially when Lacey starts to steal his heart.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ 2/5 stars

Review: Kinda hated this book; kinda liked it. The story is CLUNKY and there's so much slang and trying to make the FMC the Disney "adorkable" trope while also being horny 24/7. MMC and his counterparts are so BORING. Just hot guys being hot and horny... and liking being fawned over. They just wanna bang humans and that's the jist of it. The "love games" are barely an aspect other than a recurring annoyance and then for about 1-2 scenes. I don't recommend reading this.

Thank you for reading! I hope this was decent at least. I know this is only a fraction of what I was able to do last time but this month was very weird for reasons I don't truly know; my brain has been... fuzzy? No matter, it's not the end of the world. See you next time :3

Let's see how much I can read in March, eh?

2025 Reading Goal: 14/80
